Biography
Monica Correia, a native Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, holds a BS degree in
Architecture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a MFA degree in
Design from the University of Iowa. She has worked for 12 years as a
professional interior designer at Flaksman, Pini & Vergara Design Studio in
Rio de Janeiro. She actively participated in interior design projects for
major shopping malls in Brazil and Portugal. Mrs. Correia has also designed
interiors for several retail stores, restaurants and promotional stands in
Brazil. As an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro
School of Architecture, Mrs. Correia conducted innovative teaching methods
that received coverage by the press in Brazil. Importantly, her students have
been selected for Brazilian and international furniture design competitions.
In addition to her teaching activities, Mrs. Correia develops artistic design
with diverse materials and has participated in juried exhibitions with her art
work. Several of her art pieces have been granted distinguished awards in
Brazil and in the United States.
