![]() | Margaret Stratton received a B.A. from Evergreen State College and earned M.A. and M.F.A. degrees from the University of New Mexico. She teaches Intermediate Photography, Topics in Contemporary Photography, Studio Lighting, and 4 X 5 Techniques. Her work in photography and video ranges from formal black-and-white landscapes to autobiographical first-person narratives that examine family, media, and focuses on critique of film and television, and on the stereotyping of women and people of color in entertainment. Stratton has received regional and national awards in photography, video, and installation from the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, D.C. (photo, 1990; video, 1995; and fellowships in photo and installation, 1987 and 1988); the Rockefeller Foundation and the Jerome Foundation; and numerous other grants in video and public art. Her work has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; Lincoln Center, New York; the Berlin Film Festival; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Ill.; and the Harvard Film Archive. Stratton received a Faculty Scholar Award from The University of Iowa in 1995. |
