Iowa was the first university in the nation to bring established, working painters on to the faculty. Past faculty members include Grant Wood, Philip Guston, and Byron Burford.

Today, our faculty and graduate students exhibit their work in galleries and museums throughout the nation, including in biennial faculty art exhibitions on the University of Iowa campus. They are also frequently invited to lecture and teach at educational and cultural institutions.
